>> ENCORE Career Awareness and Mentorship Program (CAMP) The mission of the ENCORE CAMP is for students and their parents to understand the importance and benefits of a college education by exploring different careers paths in the areas of science, technology, engineering, math and business during non-school hours. Students explore professional careers through mentoring experiences and inquiry-based interactive activities throughout the ENCORE CAMP experience. >> ENCORE – NASA Professional Development at IRRA The NASA’s Imagine Mars Project allows you to design your own project, or use the lesson plans and project ideas on the site to customize a project that is just right for your students and timeframe. NASA and ENCORE works with you to put it all together, and connects you with scientists, engineers, artists, and experts in your community. Whether you're an after-school project leader or a formal education teacher, Imagine Mars will not only stretch your students' imaginations, but their view of their community, their planet, their universe, and most importantly, their potential. >> ENCORE Southwest Educational Convocation 2011 Organized by Texas Valley Communities Foundation in conjunction with the Office of U.S. Congressman Rubén Hinojosa, the Engaging Communities for College Readiness (ENCORE) Southwest Educational Convocation brings together key stakeholders to share best practices and lessons learned among schools, organizations and administrators in the area of college and career readiness. >> Ford Partnering With ENCORE 2010 At South Middle School in Edinburg students implemented the Ford PAS curriculum in a Principles of Information Technology course where they started their own business. Over the course of the semester, students planted a garden, and used the vegetables from the garden to make and sell their own salsa. >> Austin Girl-Start 2010 ENCORE facilitated a College Trip for eight Edinburg CISD Memorial Middle School students to attend the event hosted by Girlstart; an Austin-based foundation that promotes the study of math, science and technology among school-aged girls. The eight girls were selected based on their outstanding records of school involvement. The group concluded their day by touring The University of Texas at Austin's mechanical engineering department. >> ENCORE Career Awareness and Mentorship Program (CAMP) 2010-2011 The Career Awareness & Mentorship Program (CAMP) is a inquiry-based initiative developed by the ENCORE program in partnership with Rio Grande Valley (RGV) school districts to provide students the ultimate college readiness experience. >> ENCORE Career Awareness and Mentorship Program (CAMP) 2009-2010 The ENCORE CAMP program is an inquiry-based initiative offering a broad array of enrichment academic activities to provide students and parents a significant college and career readiness experience. The mission of the ENCORE CAMP is for students and their parents to understand the importance of higher education and college readiness, exposing them to the benefits of a college education and exploring different careers paths in the areas of math, science, engineering and business during non-school hours. >> ENCORE Family Sessions 2009-2010 Recent research reports conducted by the Texas Valley Communities Foundation indicates that parents are key in the college readiness process. As of result, ENCORE has developed a strong and dynamic parental involvement and family literacy component to promote awareness and prepare parents with the knowledge and tools they need to guide and improve their children's academic success for an effective college preparation. Parents with their children participate in hands-on college readiness activities conducted concurrently, in English and Spanish, where they explore the ultimate benefits of a college education. >> ENCORE College Readiness Television Shows 2010 ENCORE conducts interactive television shows every other week to share valuable information on college and career readiness to thousands of families in the Rio Grande Valley and North of Mexico. Guest speakers are invited to participate in these television shows to focus on different topics of education. >> Edinburg CISD ENCORE CAMP 2010 The mission of the ENCORE CAMP is for students and their parents to understand the importance of higher education and college readiness, exposing them to the benefits of a college education and exploring different careers paths in the areas of math, science, engineering and business during nonschool hours. The ENCORE CAMP has been successfully implemented with over 1,000 middle and high school students from different South Texas school districts. >> KMF ENCORE CAMP Summer 2010 ENCORE has partnered with The Kenedy Memorial Foundation and the Diocese of Brownsville to conduct ENCORE CAMPs for the Catholic School students. Rio Grande Valley Catholic students and their parents had the opportunity to participate in the ENCORE CAMP initiative in events such as College Readiness Day, CSI Forensics Day, Business & Technology Day and Robotics Day. >> ENCORE College Readiness Radio Shows 2010 ENCORE conducts interactive radio shows every other week to share valuable information on college and career readiness to thousands of families in the Rio Grande Valley and North of Mexico. Guest speakers are invited to participate in these radio shows to focus on different topics of education. >> ENCORE Annual Convening 2010 Engaging Communities for College Readiness (ENCORE) Annual Convening is an event designed for secondary students to highlight the importance of college and career readiness. Hundreds of Hispanic secondary students and their parents participates in bilingual hands-on college & career-prep exploring sessions, interactive college tours, research-based high school dropout prevention sessions, and customized workshops in the areas of financial aid, college readiness and life skills development. >> Ediburg CISD College Readiness Parent Sessions The ENCORE team in partnership with community organizations conducted Parent Sessions on College Readiness across all middle schools in Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District, one of the largest school districts in the Rio Grande Valley. Each parent session focused in promoting the benefits of higher education, understanding the definition of college readiness and reflecting in the importance of parental involvement in the college and career readiness process. >> BOEING Encourages Edinburg CISD Students to Go the Distance Boeing engineers, scientists and business executives participated in interactive presentations and science experiments with middle and high school students from Edinburg Consolidated School District as part of the ENCORE CAMP college readiness initiative. Boeing representatives inspired over 1,000 students to prepare for a college education and consider careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). >> College Readiness for Middle School Parents As a component of the Career Awareness & Mentorship Program (CAMP), the ENCORE team conducted interactive College Readiness Parent Sessions for middle school parents at the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District. These sessions explored the importance of higher education, the definition of College Readiness, supplemental programs to help support students, and reflected on the importance of parental involvement. >> Ford PAS Professional Development Institute 2009 The South Texas Ford PAS Professional Development Institute (PDI) 2009 hosted August 4th - 7th was a great success. Over 40 teachers and administrators from Edinburg and San Benito CISD participated in this four-day event. The South Texas Ford PAS PDI 2009 concentrated in renewal and advancement of teachers' knowledge and skills to improve teaching effectiveness in the classroom. Teachers participated in school culture and college readiness activities and were introduced to the Ford PAS inquiry-based, project-based, and collaborative approaches transforming teaching and learning.
