Rio Grande City CISD and Texas Valley Communities Foundation have Mutual Interest in College Readiness
February 9, 2010 - Rio Grande City CISD becomes the recipient of a $10,000 contribution from the Texas Valley Communities Foundation (TVCOF)-ENCORE program. Representatives of this organization presented the check at the regular Board of Trustees meeting on February 9, 2010. The TVCOF has established a program that promotes college readiness and higher education in Starr County among other counties in the Rio Grande Valley.
"We at Rio Grande City CISD are always appreciative of contributions made that will benefit our students. Our mutual interest in preparing them for higher education only affirms the success they can achieve with our joint efforts," said Mr. Roel A. Gonzalez, RGCCISD Superintendent.
The Engaging Communities for College Readiness (ENCORE) is a program developed by TVCOF with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in promotion of this endeavor. In collaboration with education and community leaders they have been able to maintain a strong infrastructure. The program has established a partnership with community organizations, higher education institutions and K-12 schools in order to implement this common goal.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to all the Texas Valley Communities Foundation Board Members for their continuous support to the Starr County area and the Rio Grande City CISD. A special thanks to Mrs. Rosa Gonzalez- TVCOF Board Member who attended the presentation.
